Calibration and Testing is required by various standards, Codes of Practice, Acts and Legislation ie EEA, ASTM, IEC, AS & NZS etc on a wide variety of Meters, Personal Protective Equipment and Vehicles, in order to ensure they remain safe and are providing the level of protection that the worker requires.
HV & LV TESTING - Electrical Safety Products and Personal Protective Equipment cannot be visually confirmed as providing the required level of protection, so they are required to be electrically tested at regular intervals to confirm if the insulation is providing adequate protection. Testing and calibration of equipment can be conducted from 2.5kV, up to 300kV to ensure the equipment is fit for purpose and providing the correct uncertainty of measurement as required. Some equipment covered by the electrical testing and calibration carried out includes:
- Insulated Gloves - class 0 to 4
- Insulated Mats - Class 0 to 4, A & B
- Insulated Sleeves - Class 2 to 4
- Insulated Tools
- Torque Wrenches
- Guards
- Sticks, operating, tree trimming, phasing, proving, VDD
- Earth sets & Jumpers
- Portable Applicance Testing
- Ladders
- Harnesses
- Lanyards
- Lever Hoists, chains, wire ropes - proof test
- Proximity testers
- Phase Dectors
- Cable Locators
- Transformer pressure tests
- Battery Discahrge testers
- Clamp Meters
- Voltage Meters
- Clip on Clamp Meters
- Universal Relay Testers
- Multi function Multimeters
- Multimeters
- Digital Earth Resitance Testers
- Data Loggers
- HV Proving Units
- RCD Testers
- Circuit Breaker Analyser
- Timers
- EWP - Bucket Liners, boom electrical tests (6 monthly), AE, 5/10 year major inspections and NDT
EWP AE TESTING - In addition to six monthly Mechanical Inspections and any Electrical boom and liner testing, an Acoustic Emission Test is required on all mobile elevating work platform's fitted with a fibreglass boom (FRP) every 2 years. The test involves sophisticated equipment to detect any breaks or cracks in fibres as a load is applied and withdrawn over periods of four minutes. As required by AS/NZS 4748 - Acoustic Emission Testing of Fibreglass Insulated Booms on Elevating Work Platforms, this test must be carried out at two yearly intervals or if any damage has occurred through other reasons ie an accident.
LADDER TESTING - In addition to the standard requirement of HSE Act "to take all practicable steps to prevent harm", there are a number of standards ie AS/NZS 1892 for various types of ladders; each standard details the requirements for use and testing including visual and deflection testing both of which Design Engineering can undertake.
